From University to Amazon FBA Entrepreneur: My Journey Into Online Business, AI and Building The Advice Centre

Why success still belongs to the people who take action

Around 13 years ago, I was sitting in a university lecture in York feeling completely lost.

Like many young people across the UK, I followed the expected path: school, good grades, university, and then a career.

On paper, everything looked right.

But deep down, something didn’t feel right for me.

I was ambitious and wanted success, but I didn’t yet understand what success actually meant in my own life.

In this blog, I want to share my journey into entrepreneurship, building an Amazon FBA business, and how AI is now changing the way new businesses are created.

Leaving University and Searching for Direction

Before university, I decided to take a gap year, and that decision changed everything for me.

During that time, I was introduced to marketing, entrepreneurship, and online business for the first time.

I discovered that people were building real businesses from laptops, creating freedom and independence in ways I had never been exposed to before.

It opened my eyes to a completely different world.

I still went to university because it felt like the safe option.

But it didn’t take long before I realised it wasn’t the right path for me.

Building a business was.

Taking the Risk to Leave University

Leaving university was one of the biggest decisions I’ve ever made.

There was no guaranteed path, no certainty, and no clear plan.

Just pressure, uncertainty, and a feeling that I had to trust myself.

Shortly after leaving, an opportunity appeared that completely changed my direction.

I met a small business owner with a niche product.

The product was strong, but there was no real online strategy, no digital marketing, and no scalable eCommerce system in place.

That’s where I came in.

I agreed to start selling the product independently online as a distributor.

My First Experience With Online Business and Amazon FBA

What started as a small side project quickly grew far bigger than expected.

Orders began coming in faster than I could manage.

At one point, I was surrounded by boxes, tape, and parcels, spending more time packing orders than actually growing the business.

That’s when I discovered Amazon FBA.

Amazon FBA changed everything.

It allowed Amazon to handle storage, packing, shipping, and logistics, meaning I could focus fully on scaling the business.

At the time, very few people were talking about Amazon FBA or online business in the way we see today.

It was still early.

And it was not easy.

Lessons From Building an Amazon FBA Business

Learning how to sell online properly took years of trial and error.

There were mistakes, failed ideas, stress, and constant learning.

But those experiences taught me the real foundations of online business.

Over time, those skills allowed me to work with brands and manufacturers across multiple industries, including electronics, food and drink, and music.

I helped them grow their online sales through Amazon and other digital platforms.

That journey eventually led me to create AMZ Business Academy, where I began teaching others the same Amazon FBA and online selling strategies I had learned.

How AI Is Changing Entrepreneurship

Today, entrepreneurship is changing faster than ever because of artificial intelligence.

What once took months or years to learn can now be accessed in minutes.

Tools like ChatGPT can help people:

  • Generate business ideas
  • Build branding concepts
  • Create websites and content
  • Write marketing campaigns
  • Research competitors
  • Learn new skills quickly

The barriers to starting a business are falling.

You no longer need large startup capital, office space, or big teams to get started.

If AI had existed when I first started, I can only imagine how much faster things would have moved.

But there is an important problem many people are not talking about.

Why AI Alone Is Not Enough to Build a Business

AI is powerful, but information alone does not build successful businesses.

Judgement matters.

Experience matters.

People matter.

One of the biggest mistakes I see today is people trying to do everything alone because they believe AI can replace guidance or experience.

That is a mistake.

AI can give answers, but it cannot replace real-world decision-making.

It cannot fully validate ideas, markets, or timing.

And it cannot replace experienced perspective.

The Danger of Relying Only on AI

A growing issue is people using AI to generate business ideas and then investing heavily without proper validation.

That is risky.

AI can make ideas look good on paper, but real markets behave differently.

It is very easy to overanalyse, overbuild, or convince yourself something will work without testing it properly.

Sometimes the biggest mistake is assuming:

“I’ve got AI, so I don’t need anyone else.”

In reality, that mindset can slow you down or lead you in the wrong direction.

Why People Still Matter in Business

When I first started selling on Amazon, I tried to do everything myself.

I wanted to prove I could succeed independently.

Looking back, having experienced people around me would have accelerated everything.

Even simple guidance around fees, scaling, or strategy would have saved years of trial and error.

Business is not just about information.

It is about judgement, timing, and experience.

And that comes from people.

Lessons I’ve Learned About Entrepreneurship

One of my biggest weaknesses has always been trying to do too much, too quickly.

Over time, I’ve learned that not every opportunity needs to be acted on immediately.

Timing matters more than most people realise.

Some key lessons I’ve learned:

Take your time
Plan properly
Ask questions
Get advice
Think clearly
Don’t rush decisions

Success in business is rarely about speed.

It is about direction.

Why We Built The Advice Centre

That is exactly why we built The Advice Centre.

We work with ambitious individuals, entrepreneurs, and business owners who want to build something meaningful.

Whether that is:

  • Starting a side hustle
  • Growing an existing business
  • Building an online brand
  • Learning how to use AI in business

Our focus is simple.

AI can help you move faster.

But real experience helps you move in the right direction.

Final Thoughts

Entrepreneurship is not about proving you can do everything alone.

It is about building something meaningful, sustainably, and with the right direction.

AI is a powerful tool, but it is not a replacement for experience, judgement, or people.

Because even in the age of artificial intelligence, one thing has not changed.

People still need people.
